Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

I use this teriyaki sauce for a an easy veggie stir fry. If you look at the ingredients in bottled teriyaki sauce you’ll see most have HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP as the main ingredient.  I combined and modified several recipes to make this bitchin’ sauce and now I’ll never buy the bottled kind again! For non-vegans, this also goes well on salmon or chicken.


1/4 Cup low-sodium soy sauce
1 Cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
2 tsp crushed garlic
1/4 Cup packed brown sugar
1 TB cornstarch
1/8 tsp sesame oil
Dash of rice vinegar
Pinch of salt
1. In a  bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, ½ cup water, ginger, garlic, and brown sugar. Heat in saucepan for 1-2 minutes on medium for 2 minutes, stirring.
2. Add the sesame oil and vinegar and cook for another 2 minutes. Be careful! Sesame oil is potent; you only need a little.
3. In a small bowl combine the remaining ½ cup water and cornstarch and stir until diluted. It should  not have any lumps! Add cornstarch mixture to the pan and let thicken, stirring occasionally (about 3-5 minutes).
DONE!  Add a pinch of salt to taste, but it should be pretty darn good.
